Plans for huge wind farm off coast of Ramsgate

The world’s biggest-ever wind farm has moved a step closer to being built off the Kent coast.

London Array’s plans to put up 271 turbines 12 miles off Ramsgate have received the backing of Thanet District Council.

Eight hundreds jobs would be created in Ramsgate to build the concrete foundations and assemble the Danish-made turbines, which would generate enough electricity to power 750,000 houses

The wind farm could be up and running by 2010.

Thanet council said a new £10 million quay would have to be built in Ramsgate to load boats if the scheme was given the go-ahead.
