A man who dreamed of writing a book during a kidnap ordeal in South America is backing a drive to get more people reading.
Tom Hart Dyke, from Eynsford, was captured by Colombian revolutionaries while on an expedition in 2000.
While he was in captivity he planned his book – World Garden of Plants – which launched him to fame after his return to England.
Mr Hart Dyke collected many of the plant samples featured in the book during his expeditions around the world.
He is now helping to promote Kent County Council’s Soul Mates initiative which aims to find a perfect book for each reader as well as offering them the chance to meet authors.
